One morning an emergency came up, back when we only had Lucas. And we had to leave Lucas with grandpa. My dad had never watched a kid on his own.
But because of the emergency, he gave in. We changed Lucas before we Left and tried to assure both Lucas and grandpa that everything would be ok and that we would be back soon.
Some things you can control, some you can't. True to our word we returned within two hours. Everything seemed fine. As a matter of fact, my dad seemed especially happy. It was clear there was something he wanted to share and so he proceeded to do so.
He told of how suddenly there had been a stench in the room, coming from the general direction of Lucas' diaper. He figured if we weren't going to be long he'd just wait it out. Well, eventually that moment came. The moment in which you realize that waiting just won't work and that you're going to have to take things into your own hands. Did I mention my dad had never changed a diaper in his life. How hard could it be right.
Well, first there was the matter of removing the dirty diaper from Lucas, who was then, a squirming child who hated having his diaper changed. Well, you can imagine the scene. But there was legs all over the place, my dad didn't know that wipies had been discovered yet, so I guess you could say, the stuff hit the fan. Well, after much trying the baby was clean, but the squirming continued, so, how do you put a fresh diaper on a baby that won't lay still?
Well, simple, my father said this part with glee, you turn the baby face down on the ground and you hold him there. Well it worked. But if you turn the baby face down, you should do the same with the diaper.
Oops...
We changed the diaper one more time, and Lucas seemed much happier. Kind of like wearing underwear backwards, get the point?
Give grandpa credit, for the first time, he didn't do too bad.
