Do you have a cat?

This past weekend Mark & Davika visited us on Friday evening. This was the first time we saw Mark & Davika since moving to Port Colborne a year and a half ago.

We talked lots and caught up and somewhere in our time together we decided to give them a tour of the house. Now this was by far the most eventful house tour we have ever given. The tour itself went much the same as the other tours. We talked about how big the house was and how old and how much potential it has. That means, how much work there is to do. Anyway, eventually we ended up in our attic which someday we hope to convert into our master bedroom.

Anyway, we were in the attic, talking for about 4-5minutes discussing the different possibilities of what we could do with the space. When Davika casually asked, "Do you guys have a cat?" We looked at her, surprised, and said, "no." At that point, just as casually, Davika asked us who the cat lying on the mattress in the middle of the room (in front of all of us) belonged to.

Vania and I were floored. There was an attic living in our attic! It's a cat that we have known since he was a kitten in our neighbourhood, back when we moved in. Anyway, every once in a while it comes into the garage and if it finds the kitchen door open, it tries to high tail it to our attic. I've always caught it way before that happens.

The best we can figure it, it must have been up there for a week. As last weekend when we were ripping off the wall paper upstairs, would have been the last time the garage and the attic would have been open at the same time. But we never heard it all week. So we can't be sure. There's no other access to the attic, so it had to come in through the door downstairs.

Anyway, it must have been pretty hungry as it let me pick it up and bring it back downstairs. Before I did, I had this vision of being clawed to death. But it was very friendly as I brought him down, opened the door and put it out in the cold. I hated to do that, but the thought of having a cat doesn't fit into this family's plans.

So, you know, it's a street cat! So, there's no fear of it dying out in the cold. Our street has lots of street cats. They come with owners and soon they decide they don't want to go back home. The previous owners here used to feed most of them. So, it's not uncommon for us to have three, even four cats streched out in our driveway or front lawn.
