I wish this picture was not blurry, but a quick shot, bad gym conditions, a kid who won't sit still are all the excuses I'm going to hold on to :)
Normally, when it comes to scholastic efforts, I'm usually talking about Lucas. However, this time, it's Xanda's turn, well it's sort of both, but Xanda came out on top.
Once again speech time came along, and fortunately, for us parents, it is now done! I wonder who works harder? Anyway, I digress. Lucas did his speech on "The other George of the Jungle, my dad" and Xanda did her speech on "Marcelo."
In terms of work effort, in typical Lucas form, he coasted, while Xanda worked pretty hard at her speech. In the end, Lucas new his pretty well, and Xanda, had hers almost completely memorized. Lucas was chosen as the alternate to represent his class in front of the school. And Xanda was chosen to represent her class.
We had hoped that this would be a teaching lesson for Lucas, as he didn't really bother getting ready, if just in case, as the alternate, he still had to do his speech, but he was having nothing to do with it. Wouldn't you know it, a kid doesn't show up and Lucas has to do his speech - as for the lesson, never learned anything, as he did a pretty good job - never learned that if he actually practiced, he could have easily moved on to the next level. Having said that, Lucas and Xanda were in the same competing group for the next level - going to the local legion. Out of the kids who made it to the gym, in their group, two go on to represent the school and one is the alternate. Last year Lucas was the alternate. This year Xanda was chosen as the alternate. Meaning that her speech and presentation was chosen over his. And she would have easily been chosen as a representative, if she hadn't rushed through her speech. It was cute, as she shaved a minute from her speech without loosing any of the content. All good, she did a great job.
It's not often that scholastically Xanda does a better job than Lucas, so that was some accomplishment on her part. And I think that, most of all, made Lucas think twice about his efforts, or lack thereof. It's never fun being beat out by your younger sibling.
Anyway, in the end, although both of them did well, yesterday was Xanda's turn to shine.
